Club Descriptions

River City Science Academy Elementary School

 Second Semester 2017-2018

Club forms will be sent home with students on Friday, December 1st in their Friday Folders.  Forms are due back to Mrs. Modaff by December 15th.  Club confirmations will be sent home Friday, January 11th.  Second Semester Clubs will begin January 16th. (There is no need to sign up for year-long clubs at this time.  Your child will continue to attend any year-long club.)

Students will learn and practice choreographed dance routines in preparation for school performances. The cost of the club is free yet students will be asked to wear coordinating outfits for performances.

Soccer club will involve learning skills like juggling and dribbling. There will be individual, partner, and team competitions and games. Any skill level is welcome to join.

Gardening Club

Children will engage in gardening in order to learn how to be eco-friendly while beautifying the school grounds by using a variety of gardening techniques. Children will learn about hydroponics, aquaponics and traditional gardening. Fruits and vegetables will be grown to teach children how we get the produce that we find in the stores.

At Chamos LA we offer the opportunity for your children to enjoy Spanish language and culture while having fun.  Our enriching, hands-on activities employ art, music, and role-playing to help children learn and retain Spanish.  Kids especially enjoy performing a finale play at the end of the school year.

Imagine it, build it, and make it go! Using LEGO MINDSTORMS Education EV3 Base Set and Software, students will explore the exciting world of robotics! Combining the versatility of the LEGO building system, a powerful microcomputer brick, and intuitive drag-and-drop programming software this adventure will have students creating robots on day one.

Students joining at the semester break will have an opportunity to train with the team to prepare for next year’s competition season.

Students will explore the basic elements of fiction writing, including narrative, scene, character, and dialogue, as well as the habits necessary to grow as a writer. We will also write many types of poetry. Students will have an opportunity at the end to have one of their stories made into a book to keep. There is no fee for this club unless you decide to make a book.

This club is all about inspiring and empowering students to discover their creativity. Students will craft with items using beads, pipe cleaners, yarn, paint, clay, and other items. They will be able to take these projects home when they are completed.
