Open House at beach campus

its second campus on Beach Blvd. in the building that formerly housed the Florida Coastal School of Law. The new location will hold the school's sixth and seventh graders, while the eighth and ninth graders attend school at the Southside building.Superintendent Ed Pratt-Dannals and Florida House Representative Jennifer Carroll joined the school's staff, students and families for the opening event and ribbon cutting ceremony.
Attention students and parents! RCSA math department will begin Saturday FCAT study sessions on January 9th! This program is specially designed for students that feel they struggle in math and really need extra help preparing for the FCAT. The FCAT is in March and there is not much time left to prepare. The study sessions will take place on Saturday January 9th, 16th, and 23rd, as well as February 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th. Interested students are to report to the Southside campus at 10am for two hours of study until 12pm. Sessions may include FCAT basics, test taking skills, mock tests, or the use of specialized computer software. From 12pm to 1pm teachers and students will enjoy free time, pizza, and beverages, compliments of RCSA. If interested in taking advantage of this wonderful opportunity please contact the math department.
Congratulations to the RCSA Math Team, Greater Than Not Equal To, for a strong showing at the annual Mathematics Field Day, finishing in 4th place out of 21 schools. The event took place on Saturday November 21st at Julia E. Landon Middle School. The competition involves a variety of calculations including multiplication, division, fractions, graphing, and even a calculator event. Participants include 6th graders: Heather Wills, Sara Idris, and Norin Zhupa, 7th graders: Savennah Sanpedro, Shadeda Choudhury, and Admir Sehovic, and 8th graders: Alejandro Cordero and Anthony Franklin.
A team River City Science Academy won the first place in the regional finals. In individual base; out of 8 events, RCSA students won 6 first place medals; 1 second place medal; and 1 fourth place. RCSA has qualified to compete at the State level competition with this victory.
RCSA attended State Science Olympiad Competition on February 28th, 2009 in Orlando. There were 63 middle school competed from all over the State of Florida. Even though this year was the first year for RCSA joining this competition, RCSA team received the 6th place among 63 schools. Being in the first time entering this event; it was a great start for RCSA Science Olympiad Team. The students and coaches are very motivated for upcoming tournaments.
