U.S. Congressman and former Jacksonville Sheriff John Rutherford visited RCSA Elementary Feb. 22 to see how RCSA's youngest scholars excel in STEM.

The Congressman, a former safety patrol himself, was greeted at the door by several Safety Patrol students. The students toured Congressman Rutherford around the campus and shared with him about their favorite classes and extracurricular activities like Science Olympiad, Mathletics and Road Runners.

Congressman Rutherford plans to return the favor to the safety patrols and offered them an inside tour of the Capital when the students journey to Washington, D.C. in June.

Congressman Rutherford visited several classrooms, including a 4th grade science class embarking on a guided inquiry of owl pellets. Excited first graders shared their work examining why snow is white in STEM class and the proud safety patrols demonstrated the science of designing and printing on the 3D printer. They also presented the Congressman with his very own RCSA rocket.

It was an honor to host Congressman Rutherford this morning. RCSA looks forward to continuously opening our doors to community leaders.
