Middle and High School Teacher (Biology)

River City Education Services, Inc. dba River City Science Academy has multiple openings available for the position of Middle and High School Teacher (Biology) with the following qualifications:

Requires a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Biology. Also requires two years of experience as a biology teacher, teaching biology related subjects at middle or high school level. Stated experience must include coaching Science Olympiad teams. Also requires Florida Educator’s Certificate in Biology (Grades 6-12) or an official statement of eligibility is required per state law. Must pass background check.

Job duties for the position include:

Instruct middle and high school students in grades 6-12 in biology. Design interdisciplinary learning experiences that fulfill the State of Florida’s standards and are consistent with the school’s mission of providing a college preparatory secondary education focused on science and mathematics. Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students’ varying needs and interests, using flexible grouping based on on-going assessment to confer with students and provide differentiated instruction. Choose instructional practices, compelling topics, in-depth investigations, and detailed project plans to include plans for integrating interdisciplinary instruction as well as to promote character development in students. Guide students as they explore the school’s problem-centered curriculum and develop an in-depth understanding of important science concepts, theories, and principles embedded within each activity. Expose students to problem solving, communication, and reasoning activities through real-world applications. Use a variety of teaching methodologies such as project-based instruction, computer-enhanced activities, and other equipment and materials to encourage students to develop a positive attitude toward science and biology and facilitate the learning of each area. Promote the students’ academic potential and interest in science through guided instruction, individual and teamwork, data collection, class work, and homework activities. Prepare, administer, and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students’ progress. Maintain accurate, complete, and correct student records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations. Confer with parents or guardians, other teachers, counselors, and administrators in order to resolve students’ behavioral and academic problems or to discuss students’ progress, and to determine students’ priorities and needs. Coach Science Olympiad teams by facilitating the program and guiding students to achieve high levels of knowledge for the subject.
